Sara Sousa
Midwife
I have been a nurse since 2000, a midwife since 2010 and I have more than 14 years of experience providing healthcare to women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum, in Portugal. I am also a breastfeeding counselor for UNICEF.
I have worked in various contexts, such as hospitals and primary healthcare.
I currently monitor pregnant women without a family doctor, in a health center. They are pregnant women from other countries and very different contexts, cultures and traditions.
At the same time, I am interested in the humanized monitoring of women, during labor, birth and postpartum, in their personal context and at home. In Portugal, pregnant women are vulnerable and do not always have access to adequate pregnancy surveillance as well as health education on nutrition, breastfeeding, physiology of labor, birth and postpartum, birth plan, among many other essential subjects. for a healthy, happy pregnancy and a positive motherhood experience.
I am committed to making my contribution to changing the scenario of maternal health in Portugal. In an ideal Portugal, pregnant women would have universal access to pregnancy surveillance, with a focus on literacy and empowerment in their decisions, a respected labor, delivery and postpartum period without obstetric violence and a happy motherhood experience
