ABOUT ME

Sara Sousa
Midwife
I have been an independent midwife since 2010 and have over 16 years of experience providing healthcare to women, their babies, and families in Portugal.
The care I offer ranges from birth preparation to postpartum, providing constant support in adapting to motherhood and breastfeeding, taking into account the individual realities of each family and respecting the choices of each couple.
I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), with a postgraduate degree in breastfeeding from the Catholic University of Portugal, and a laser therapist.
I have worked in a large maternity hospital in Lisbon and now work in a health center where I care for women and their babies without a family doctor. Most of the families are from other countries, with very different cultures and traditions.
In Portugal, pregnant women do not always have access to the monitoring and support they need, as well as education and preparation for a healthy pregnancy, pain relief during labor, birth plans, breastfeeding, and many other essential topics for a positive motherhood and fatherhood experience. In the postpartum period, women need a great deal of physical and mental care, support and positive encouragement, and specialized breastfeeding assistance.
My mission is to stand alongside families, providing personalized and equal care.

"The postpartum visits from Sara were a life-saver for us! We only found out that such a service exists 5 days after birth and were lucky to get Sara's contact from a friend, she replied really fast and came that same evening! She thoroughly check our baby (with great care and attention and love), and even found a collar-bone fracture that the hospital had not seen and reassured us on how to handle our baby to reduce possible pain. She also helped with breastfeeding and checked me and my wounds, which was so reassuring and also she used a little laser device to help ease the pain. Overall she was so attentive and calming and super professional and skilled. We asked her to come a couple more times and each time was so worth it. She also answered to several urgent questions we had by Whatsapp about the baby and about avoiding mastitis. We recommend her 100%!"

"Thank you for your patience in addressing all my questions and for your kind demeanor throughout our meetings. Your ability to listen attentively and provide thoughtful responses is truly commendable. It is not often that one encounters a midwife who combines exceptional knowledge with such a warm and approachable manner. Thanks to your advice, I feel better equipped to manage my health, and I am already noticing positive changes. I am grateful to have you as my midwife and look forward to continuing under your care."

"Without a doubt the most incredible experience I've ever had, having my son at home, in the comfort of my own home, with my husband and my eldest daughter, is priceless! A dream that I managed to make come true with the help of Midwives Sara and Inês, who were preparing and guiding us the entire time for this moment. From the first few weeks of the consultation, I felt comfortable and safe. In addition to being listened to very well by them, they said everything to make this birth happen as planned. It was 3 and a half hours of labor, I received my son, then a lot of assistance and professionalism, I was very well looked after."
